Obituary for Norris Root

Norris Root, 89, of Canyon, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021. Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church of Canyon with Rev. Andy Blair officiating. Burial will follow in Dreamland Cemetery.

Norris was born on March 10, 1932 in Randall County to Gene and Theresa (Albers) Root. He was a 1950 graduate of Canyon High School and attended West Texas State University. Norris married Ann Holt on April 2, 1977 at the Joseph A. Hill Memorial Chapel on the WT Campus. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Norris was a designer and builder in the Canyon area for many years and was also licensed in real estate. He was a member and deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of Canyon and a longtime member of Canyon Rotary Club. Norris was always busy and was meticulous about taking care of his yard, where he kept his extensive collection of Tom Clark gnomes.

Norris was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Ellen Richardson and Nancy Stewart, and one brother, Clyde Root. Survivors include his wife, Ann Root of Canyon; five children, Cindy Getschow and husband, George of Flower Mound, Greg Root and wife, Candy of Amarillo, Stephanie Dawdy and husband, Ronnie Hager of Canyon, Tom Dawdy of Amarillo, and Holly Schreur and husband, Mike of Canyon; nine grandchildren, Brandi Crofford of Hamilton, Ohio, Ginger Russ and husband, Bart of Flower Mound, Garrett Getschow of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Richard Root and wife, Holly of Boynton Beach, FL, Berry Root and wife, Heather of Amarillo, Alexis Ellis-Root of Amarillo, Parker Ellis-Root of Dallas, Melissa French and husband, Kip of Amarillo, and Joshua Schreur of Amarillo; eight great-grandchildren, Victoria Ambriz of Dallas, Cody Crofford of Dallas, Kenny Crofford of Hamilton, Ohio, Jackson and Samuel Root of Amarillo, and Brooke, Kali and Austin French of Amarillo; and one brother, Harold E. Root and wife, Wanda of Canyon.
