Nellie was born October 21, 1918 in Caddo Gap, Arkansas to A.R. and Nettie Robbins.

Nellie or Nell, as she was known to many, was raised on a small farm outside Caddo Gap, Arkansas. She grew up with and went to school with her future husband, Loyd Short, and they were married on February 7, 1935. She was 16 when she married and said the first time she lied was when she claimed to be 18, but the pastor that married them knew her and that she was 16. He married them anyway. Together they raised three boys, Larry, Roger, and Mike.

She worked hard all her life and struggled at times to make ends meet. Growing up during the great depression gave her the skills that she would always use to provide for her family. Gardening, canning food, and cooking were talents she learned at an early age. She could always cook up a great meal with whatever she had, and her boys could attest to that. One of the closest friends of the family, Greg Thomas, was one of her most avid meal fans. She fed him on a special oversized platter and often referred to him as a fourth son.

She loved to raise roses and they were always her favorite flowers with lots of them planted around her home.

She loved her family and relatives near and far. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 78 ½ years, Loyd, two brothers, Henry Robbins and Dee Ray Robbins, a daughter-in-law, Sammye Short, a grandson, Trevor Burrell, and a great granddaughter, Chelsea Forcey.

She is survived by her sons, Larry Short of Decatur, TX, Roger Short and wife Tina of Canyon, TX, and Mike Short and wife Linda of White Deer, TX; eight grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and six great, great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to the Robbins Family Cemetery, 110 Adventist Church Rd., Bonnerdale, AR 71933.
