Obituary for NEIL COOPER

Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at Lake Tanglewood Community Church with Dr. Roger Hubbard, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Mr. Cooper was born November 16, 1923 in Hedley to C.O. and Annie Sharp Cooper. He moved to Canyon in 1930. He graduated from Canyon High School and attended the University of Texas and West Texas State College. He served in the U. S. Army Air Force. In 1947 he married Barbara Ann Tolliver in Canyon. He worked in the family grocery business and opened Cooper"s Market in Hereford in 1952. He left the grocery business in 1968 to pursue other interests including farming and real estate. He moved to Amarillo in 1988, then to Lake Tanglewood. He served on the Hereford City Council, was active in Boy Scouts and Lions Club, and served as a Deacon for the First Baptist Church. His recent interests were serving his Lord as a volunteer prison chaplain, coordinator for Bill Glass Weekend of Champions Prison Ministry and counselor for Family Coaching of Amarillo. He was preceded in death by one brother, John W. Cooper, four sisters, Faye Byars, Hazel Hall, Marguerite Allen, and Mary Lee Colclazer. Survivors include his wife, Barbara, of the home; one daughter, Patricia Cooper, and husband Joe, of Houston; two sons, James B. Cooper, and wife, Pam, of Spring, and David Cooper, of Lubbock; one brother, Clay Cooper, of Canyon; five grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
