Obituary for Nanette J. McCrary

Nanette J. McCrary, 67, of Amarillo, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024. No services are scheduled at this time.

Nanette was born on January 31, 1957 in Japan to Byron and JoAnne (Smith) Strong. Nearly fifty years ago, she married the love of her life, Patrick McCrary. Their love story began with a Marine Corp wedding held in El Torro, California. It continued from there through twenty-eight moves and visiting nearly every state in the nation.

Nanette held numerous positions within the Federal Government until their move to Texas where through her love and passion of helping others, she became the director of the Panhandle Region for Texas Panhandle Mental Health Authority.

Nanette was passionate about her community and held positions on 13 different community organizations. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and friend to many.

Nanette is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Keith Strong.

Survivors include her husband, Patrick McCrary of Amarillo; daughter, Danetia McKay and husband, Steve, of North Royalton, OH; granddaughters, Delaynie Mayes of Waco, TX, Mackenzie Mayes of North Royalton, OH, and Rylie Mayes of North Royalton, OH; sister, Barbara Cosgrove of Fayetteville, NC; brother, Scott Strong and wife, Victoria of Orange, CA; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship has been established in her name, the Nanette McCrary Memorial Scholarship. Donations may be mailed to North Royalton Educational Foundation, 6579 Royalton Road, North Royalton, Ohio 44133.
