Dees was born on June 14, 1932 in Llano, Texas to Matt Moss Dees and Almeda Harwell Dees. He graduated from Llano High School in 1949, where he excelled in various sports. In 2008, Myron was inducted into the Llano High School Hall of Fame. Myron attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, where he completed a Bachelor of Science in Health and P.E. He earned both Masters and Doctoral degrees in Education from the University of Texas. While at Southwestern, a pretty coed named Marilyn Dusek caught his eye. They fell in love and were married on May 27, 1953. From June 1954 to May 1956, Myron served in the Army Signal Corps. He was stationed in El Paso and Ft Monmouth, New Jersey, and then served overseas duty in Austria and Italy. Myron enjoyed a successful coaching career at McAllen Junior High School. He then was an Associate Professor and coached multiple sports at Southwestern University, where his teams earned championships in baseball, tennis and track. Myron and his young family spent twelve years in Georgetown, where he actively served in the community. He was elected president of the School Board, the Optimist Club and the Georgetown Country Club. In 1969, Myron accepted the position of Chairman of the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department at West Texas State University, where he worked until his retirement as Professor Emeritus in 1994. He also served as Athletic Director and golf coach, where his team won the Missouri Valley Conference Championship in 1985. Myron volunteered his time with the Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, serving as president in 1971. For his years of distinguished service, Myron was recognized with their State Honor Award. In 1968, Myron began a long history of service with the American Cancer Society. He volunteered on numerous ACS committees at the state level, including 5 years as Chairman of the Golf Committee. He was honored to be a member of and chair their State Board of Directors. Myron was made a Life Member of the State Board in 1996. In 1998, he was awarded the St. George Medal-the highest award given by the National ACS to a state volunteer. At the national level, Myron served on the ACS Golf Committee for fifteen years, five years as Chairman. Golf was a life-long passion for Myron. He was proud to have "shot his age" four times, and he made four holes-in-one in his playing career. He delighted in playing famous golf courses throughout the country during his tenure with the ACS golf committees. While golf was his favorite pastime, he also enjoyed other sports, especially watching his beloved Texas Longhorns and the Texas Rangers. Since childhood, Myron was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and actively served his Lord by teaching the Crusaders Class at FUMC of Canyon for nearly forty years. He was instrumental in beginning a weekly men's Prayer Breakfast and is remembered as a student of the Bible. Myron's family was always his first priority and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Matt Dees, Jr. The family expresses their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Interim Healthcare Hospice and Good Care Health Services. The pallbearers are John Barnhart, Joe King, Mike King, Kurt Landis, A. L. Pruett, Preston Tirey, Ken Van Doren, and Joe Young.
