She graduated at age 16 as valedictorian from Floydada High School in 1936 and from West Texas State Teachers College in 1940. While at WT, she met her future husband, Everett Culp of Happy. They were married on March 6, 1943, in Clovis, New Mexico. Following graduation from WT, Myra Nell taught elementary school at Fritch. During World War II, she was a civilian instructor at Amarillo Army Air Corps Base and in Biloxi, Miss. After the war, she and Everett settled in Happy where she became a devoted farmer"s wife, homemaker and mother. They were married for 64 years until Everett"s death on October 6, 2007. From November 2007 until her death, Myra Nell resided in Amarillo at Park Place Towers and Ware Living Center. The family thanks everyone at Park Place Towers, Ware Living Center and BSA Hospice for their kindness and care for her during the past two years. Myra Nell was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Happy. She is best remembered by those who knew her for her love of boiling-hot coffee, soap operas and TV sports, especially the NBA. She dearly loved Happy and all the wonderful friends she made there over the years. She was very proud of her sons and their families, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren who always brightened her day. She was an avid supporter of WTAMU and was a member of the WT Alumni Association and the Buffalo Club. She thoroughly enjoyed all WT sports, especially Lady Buff volleyball and basketball. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her father and mother; two sisters, Lucille Custer and Adelle Whisenant; and two brothers, J. R. Evers and Olin G. Evers. Survivors include two sons, Gary Culp and wife, Peggy and Wick Culp and wife, Janet, all of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Chris Carson and wife, Jamie, of Amarillo, and Dr. Brittney Culp, of Dallas; and two great grandchildren, Connor and Colton Carson, of Amarillo.
