Monte C. Winders, 66, of Canyon, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2020. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, February 10, 2020 at First Christian Church in Canyon with Debra Huffman officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 9, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors.
Monte was born on August 13, 1953 in Clovis, NM to James L. and Evanel (Whitley) Winders. He received his bachelor of science degree from West Texas State University and was a commodities broker for many years. Monte married Marylin Winegeart in Oklahoma Lane on September 18, 1976. He was a member and elder of First Christian Church of Canyon where he was active in Disciples of Christ area and regional ministry. He was also a member of Palo Duro Kiwanis Club serving as president and regional president, Coors Cowboy Club, and was on the board of the Tri State Fair for many years. He was a member and served as past president of the WT Ag Alumni and WT Alumni Associations. He received the Graduate of Distinction from WT School of Agriculture. Monte was an avid WT supporter and loved attending the Buff games and all WT functions. He served as county chairman for the Republican Party and reported the markets on KGNC radio for many years.
Monte was a history buff and loved to read. He also enjoyed coaching little league baseball and woodworking, but his greatest passion was his grandsons, whom he loved sharing ice cream and candy with. Monte always enjoyed serving his community and had a special place in his heart for the residents of Sky West, where he shared the message and communion regularly, and played Santa for the residents.
Monte was preceded in death by his father in 1985. Survivors include his wife, Marylin; two daughters, Staci Winders of Sweetwater and Randee Stork and husband, Matt of Albuquerque, NM; son, Daniel Winders and wife, Kelly of Lubbock; two very special grandsons, Graham and Hunter Stork; his mother, Evanel Winders of Earth; two sisters, Kathy Carr and husband, David of Earth and Sherri Halsell and husband, Luke of Henrietta; cousin, David Campbell of Earth; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
