Obituary for MERLE L. FORD

Merle L. Ford, 86, of Amarillo, died Saturday, December 28, in Amarillo. Services will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at the North Amarillo Church of Christ with Glen Walton, Minister of Bell Avenue Church of Christ, and Dalton Key, Minister of North Amarillo Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr.Ford was born on October 19, 1916 in Row, Oklahoma to Lemuel and Florence Potter Ford. He graduated from Concord High School in Concord, Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Airforce and was a veteran of WWII, having served in England and France during Normandy. He married Una Howard at Wheeler on December 25, 1941. He was a welder and a craftsman at his trade. He was a member of the West Texas Sams Chapter and a member of the North Amarillo Church of Christ for fifty-six years. He loved the outdoors and was a devoted husband and father. He was a devout Christian for over sixty years. He was preceded in death by one brother, James Ford, in 1990, one sister, Dessie Geren, in 1997, and one great grandson, Colton Johnston-Weathers, in 1995. Survivors include his wife, Una Ford, of the home; three sons, Lonnie Ford, of LaSalle, CO, Gary Ford, of Mangum, OK, and Ken Ford, of Amarillo; one daughter, Carol Weathers, of Amarillo; two brothers, Lamuel Ford, of Lincoln, NE, and Bill Ford, of Canyon; one sister, Darlene Brumley, of Amarillo; eight grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the American Heart Association, 2404 W. 7th, Amarillo, TX 79106.
