Obituary for Mary Pearl Vaughan

Mary Pearl Vaughan, 100, of Canyon, passed to heaven on Wednesday, July 21, 2021. Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, July 26, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Canyon with Rev. Larry Payne and Rev. Gene Jones officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 P.M. CST on Monday at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in San Jon, NM. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon.

Pearl was born on February 28, 1921 in Mora Co., NM to Ben and Nellie Robinson and grew up in Quay Co., near San Jon, NM. She married O.C. Streak Vaughan on March 10, 1940. Their two children completed the family she so loved. Always a hard worker, she devoted herself to holding that bond together. They lived in the Amarillo area for over 50 years. In that time, they served in their church, visited the sick, and always were surrounded by extended family and friends.

Her compassionate heart and faith in God led her to teach Bible studies. She especially loved children and wanted them to know the love of Jesus.

Pearl is preceded in death by her husband, her son-in-law, Elmler 'Bud' Penny, a grandchild, Stacy, a great-grandchild, Olivia, and five siblings.

Survivors include her daughter, Jean Penny; her son, Jimmy Vaughan and wife, Barbara; grandchildren, Jana, Julie and Phil, Nathan, Emily, and Josh; grandchildren-in-love, Marta, Brent and families; great-grandchildren, Erin and Fernando Lopez, Eric McCook, Amy, Darrell, and Kimberly Binnion, Jacob Campbell and family, Levi Campbell, Zachery, Spencer and Jamie Kent and Ryan Vaughan; great-great-grandchildren, Thomas, Chelo, Kylie and Rider; her brother, Frank Robinson and wife, Mary and family; and numerous extended family and a host of friends. A special thanks to Rodney Walker who visited her weekly to offer any help she needed as well as visiting with her about the devotional they studied together, and to Johnnie Raymond, a devoted friend. They and their families expressed great love for her.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, 1717 4th Avenue, Canyon, TX 79015, or a charity of your choice.
