Obituary

Mary Lee Splawn, 87, of Canyon, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2020. Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Steve Olsen, pastor of First Baptist Church of Canyon, officiating.

Mary Lee was born on October 27, 1932 in Frederick, Oklahoma to Lee Patrick and Freda Schroeder Patrick. She married Robert E. Splawn on November 24, 1950. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canyon where she was actively involved in her Sunday School class, Sue Hite Study Club and various women’s groups. Mary Lee loved her church family. She also enjoyed her volunteer work at Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum and Partners in Palo Duro Canyon.

Mary Lee will be lovingly remembered as the best cook ever and she spent many hours working with her needlepoint. Her biggest enjoyment was taking care of her family, and her greatest joy was her great grandson, Braden.

Mary Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert E. Splawn on January 6, 2013, her sister, Mildred Stewart, and a nephew, Fred Stewart. Survivors include her daughter, Cindy Woodall, of Canyon; her son, Bob Splawn of Canyon; a granddaughter, Lee Ann Lefevre and husband, Don, of Canyon; a great grandson, Braden Lefevre of Canyon; two nephews, Terry Stewart of Amarillo and Lynn Tate of El Reno, OK; and one niece, Deana Sims of Coalgate, OK.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Partners in Palo Duro Canyon, 11450 Park Road 5, Canyon, TX 79015.

Mary was a beautiful lady. We had a weekly visit for about thirty years while I did her hair. She was an example of what a true “lady” should be and really a friend. I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to know her.
