Mary was born on March 21, 1941 in Archer City, Texas to John and Evelyn Evans Baughman. She married Billy DeWayne Chumbley on July 20, 1962 in Canadian and they moved to Canyon in 1968. Mary worked for Canyon Independent School District as a teacher’s aide for four years. She was a member of the University Church of Christ and Canyon Hills Church of Christ.

Mary loved garage sales, her family and her country. She was an avid Republican and shared her earnest views frequently in letters to the editor. Mary will be fondly remembered as ‘a rambunctious red-headed woman who asked no questions and took prisoners as she saw fit!’

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Billy Chumbley; daughter, Leslie DeAnn Appling and husband, Roy of Borger; son, Gary DeWayne Chumbley and wife, Sheila of Spokane, WA; three grandchildren, Chandler and Garrett Chumbley and Jaylee Appling; four great grandchildren; a half sister, Lilly Jo Kotas; and a half brother, John Baughman.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Autism Society of Texas, 300 E. Highland Mall Blvd, Austin, TX 78752.
