She was 92 years of age, born October 18, 1919 at Plaska, Texas, to William Norris Orr and Mary Katherine Herron. The family soon moved to Tulia, Texas, where Pat grew up and graduated from Tulia High School in 1938. She attended West Texas State Teachers College for one year, then went to work at the Heard and Jones Drugstore in Tulia. In November of 1938 her cousin introduced her to a cowboy named Piner Stevens, and on May 3, 1940, Piner married his "darlin"." They spent the rest of their life together in Canyon. Pat went on to graduate from West Texas State University in 1964 and later earned her Masters degree in education. She taught second grade for the Canyon Independent School District for 21 years. Her first year was at Rex Reeves Elementary, and the next twenty were spent at Gene Howe Elementary where she was a member of the original faculty. Pat was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Canyon where she was a decades long member of the Crusaders Sunday School class and a long time member of the United Methodist Women. She was a lifetime member of the Texas State Teachers Association. Pat enjoyed working in her flower gardens, a trait she shared with her mother-in-law, Mrs. Lessie Ann Stevens. She also enjoyed the many horseback rides in the canyons with Piner, and was especially fond of Ole Dunny. In her younger years she enjoyed woodworking, and she loved the grandfather clocks that her brother Warren would build. Later she became interested in working with stained glass, and helping Piner with some of his wonderful stained glass creations. She loved having all her family around, absolutely the more the merrier. She enjoyed cooking for everyone, and everyone enjoyed her cooking. She relished time with her extended family, especially at family reunions. She was a wonderful, loving, supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law. Pat was preceded in death by her brothers, Warren and Dewitt Orr; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Melba Stevens; grandson, Jamie Olin Brown and granddaughter, Mandy Kathryn Frazier; nephews Douglas Orr and Allen Orr. She is survived by her husband, Piner, children Lynn Hotchkiss of Canyon, Demaris Tijerina and husband Al of Happy, Norris Stevens and wife Donna of Lubbock; grandchildren Lessie Jo Lennon and husband Phil of Bloomington, Indiana, Shannon Wade and wife Lisa of Spring, Texas, Zach Stevens and wife Pinar of Landstuhl, Germany, Tanner Stevens of Canyon, and Nathan Stevens of Lubbock; greatgrandchildren, Jhenefer, Jhony, Maia, and Mac Lennon, and Patrick, Aislinn, and Grant Wade, and Lara Quinn Stevens ; nieces Cherie Peterson, Donna White, Eddie Orr, and Shirley White; nephews Rondell Orr and George Warren "Bud" Orr; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, and special friend Mary Butler. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Accolade Hospice staff , especially "our angel" nurse Krista Carr and to caregiver Mattie Campbell for their compassion and dedication.
