Obituary for MARTHA NEWMAN

Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, December 10, 2009 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. David L. Lowrie, Jr., pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Dreamland Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 9 at Brooks Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Martha Newman was born March 4, 1922 in Grandfield, Oklahoma to Samuel and Martha George Davidson. Martha was a graduate of Levelland High School and Texas Tech College. She married Clarence Hubert Newman on July 1, 1944 in Memphis Tennessee. During WWII she worked for Humble Oil and Refining Company as a chemist. After working as a chemist she began teaching science at Seagraves High School, and then later taught at St. Andrews Day School in Amarillo for almost ten years. She was a member of Paramount Community Church in Amarillo for twenty years and later a member of the First Baptist Church of Canyon for twenty years. She was preceded in death by her sister, Sammie Robinson. Martha is survived by her husband, Hubert, of the home; three sons, Gary Hubert Newman, of Amarillo, John Robert Newman, of Charleston, West Virginia, Tom Craig Newman, of Conway, SC; a sister, Ethel Boyd of Austin; three granddaughters, Jennifer Newman, of Amarillo, Lisa Newman, of New York, and Mary Beth House, of Bryan TX; and two grandsons, Daniel Newman, of Ashland City, TN and Scott Newman, U.S. Marines.
