Obituary for MARTHA HESTER

Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church of Canyon with Rev. John McClean officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Martha Hester was born on October 12, 1929 in Plainview to Julius and Velma Laird Richardson. She was raised in Borger and married Charles Hester in Borger on June 5, 1949. She graduated from West Texas State University in 1950 with a Bachelor of Business Administration and a teaching certification. She taught school for thirty-six years in Dalhart, Littlefield, Breckenridge, and her last twenty-nine years in Canyon, retiring in 1990. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Canyon, the Crusaders Sunday School Class, and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Texas Retired Teachers, National Education Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Sue Hite Study Club, and the West Texas Sams Travel Club. Survivors include her husband, Charles Hester, of the home; one son, Chuck Hester and wife, Susan, of Canyon; three daughters, Linda Griffin, of Canyon, Barbara Watkins and husband, Phillip, of Amarillo, and Joni Hester, of Dallas; two sisters, Jeanette Hawkins, of McAllen, TX, and Dorris Noakes, of Cheyenne, Wyoming; three grandchildren, Emily Hester, Abby Baker, and Chelsea Williams; and three nieces and one nephew. The family requests memorials be to the Kitchen Committee at the First United Methodist Church, 1818 4th Avenue, Canyon, Texas 79015, or Canyon Area Library, 1501 3rd Avenue, Canyon, Texas 79015.
