Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Friday, May 15 at Dreamland Cemetery. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Friday, May 15 at Brooks Chapel with Rev. Debra Huffman, pastor of First Christian Church, and Dick Jackson, officiating. Marion E. "Gene" Read was born on January 19, 1929 in Dill City, Oklahoma to Glen and Allie Copeland Read. He graduated from Ardmore High School in 1947, where he was an All State Quarterback. After attending TCU for two years, Gene finished his education at East Central State in Ada, Oklahoma. On April 14, 1949, he married his high school sweetheart Elizabeth "Libby" Miller in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Gene began teaching and coaching in Oklahoma after he graduated college. In 1953, he moved to the Panhandle and began working at Pantex, where he retired in 1993. He was a member of the Canyon Country Club. Gene was an avid reader, history buff, golfer, and sports enthusiast. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2003 and a granddaughter, Elizabeth in 1996. Survivors include his daughter, Susan Martin and husband, Jamie, of Corinth, TX; son, Mark Read and wife, Linda, of McKinney, TX; two brothers, Bill Read, of Concord, CA, Keith Read, of Oklahoma City, OK; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family requests that memorials be made to the Hematology/Oncology Fund at Cook Children"s Medical Center.
