Obituary for MARILYN McGARRY CLARK

Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 19 at the First United Methodist Church of Canyon with Rev. John McClean, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Dreamland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 18 at Brooks Chapel. Marilyn "Great Mom" Clark was born in Houston, Texas to Stanley and Ethel McGarry on August 24, 1922. She spent her early childhood in the oil field towns of East Texas, where her father was superintendent of Humble Oil Company. She was a survivor of the New London School explosion. She married Russell Clark, Jr. in 1942, and together they raised six children. Marilyn moved to Canyon in 1978, where she went to work at the Cornette Library at West Texas State University. She retired at the age of 78 in 2000. She resided at Palo Duro Village Retirement Home in Canyon until her death. Marilyn lived her 86 years as a strong independent West Texas woman. She will be greatly missed by her co-workers at the WT Library, her friends at Palo Duro Village, and all her family. Survivors include three daughters, Terri Bennett, of Houston , Colleen Clark, of Amarillo, Linda Clark (deceased); three sons, Gary Clark and wife, Carol, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, Richard Clark, of Amarillo, Randy Clark and wife, Kathy, of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Odyssey Hospice, 6900 I-40 W., Suite 1500, Amarillo, TX 79106.
