Marie Wieck, 76, of Canyon passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2020. Private family mass will be held on Friday, April 17, 2020 followed by a private burial in Dreamland Cemetery.
Marie was born on August 1, 1943 in Amarillo to Ben and Helen Schuele Koch. She was a 1961 graduate of Umbarger High School and married Fred Wieck at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on April 14, 1966. She was a daycare provider where she cared for many children and was known as MiMi. She and Fred served as a foster family for Catholic Family Services taking over 100 infants in 22 years. Many knew her as a baby whisperer. She loved people and had a servant’s heart. She was a mother to all and was lovingly known as ‘Grammy’ to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marie had a gift for growing plants, was an avid collector of Coca Cola memorabilia, and enjoyed puzzles, ceramics, and cooking for family and friends. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Fred Wieck of Canyon; three daughters, Kim Hernandez and husband, Vince, Karen Bartley and husband, Lee, and Emilie Wieck, all of Canyon; eight grandchildren, Madison Wright, Marissa Hernandez and fiancé, Michael Suominen, Mitchell, Monica, and Myles Hernandez, and Shelby, Ryan, and Tate Bartley; and a granddaughter coming soon, Alaïa Wieck; three great grandchildren, Baylor, Bennett, and Beckham Wright; and five siblings, Max Koch, Annie Frische, Kay Przilas and husband, Oscar, Robert Koch, and Joe Koch and wife, Becky. Marie will also be remembered with love by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
