Obituary for MARGARET AVEN KNOTT PATTERSON

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 25 at the First Presbyterian Church in Canyon with Rev. Andy Blair, pastor, officiating. Margaret was born on October 17, 1915, to Hugh and Jeanette Duffie Baum in Leonard, Texas. She graduated from West Texas A&M with a B.S and M. A in Speech Pathology and Counseling. She started teaching at age 17, and later worked as a speech therapist, provided school counseling, and was the Director of Special Education in Hereford for many years. Margaret was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Canyon. She was also a member of Canyon Retired Teachers Association, Friends of Southwestern Art, Panhandle Plains Museum, Canyon Fine Arts Club, Friends of WTAMU Fine Arts, and several historical and charitable organizations. Margaret was an avid traveler and had traveled over all of the USA except three states. She had also traveled on all continents except Antarctica. In addition to travel, her hobbies were reading, painting, entertaining, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by three husbands; her parents; two brothers; two sisters; and a step son. Survivors include two daughters, Jo Gibson, of Amarillo, Carolyn Covin and husband, Buddy, of Canyon; 6 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 16 great great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Presbyterian Children’s Home, 3480 S. Bowie, Amarillo, TX 79109, The Opportunity Plan, 504 24th St. Canyon, TX 79015, First Presbyterian Church, 904 19th St, Canyon, TX 79015, or a favorite charity. The family would like to thank the wonderful people at Conner Place and Kindred Hospice for their care and love they showered on Margaret.
