Obituary for M. L. SHERROD

Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church with Roman Asbill officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, December 26, 2016 at Brooks Chapel. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. M. L. Sherrod was born on September 9, 1925 in Stonewall County, TX to Lester and Claudie Bell Hall Sherrod. He graduated from Aspermont High School. M. L. was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and served on the USS Indiana during WWII. His unit navigated the Pacific Islands until they were hit, sinking some of the ships. He married Maxine Smith in Amarillo on September 20, 1946. He owned and operated Buffalo Barber in Canyon for many years, and after his retirement, he sold insurance and continued to cut hair for his longtime customers. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Crusaders Sunday School Class. He was also a Mason and a member of VFW. M. L. loved visiting with people and laughing. He enjoyed playing tennis and loved to dance. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Maxine, of the home; two sons, Clifford Sherrod and wife, Brenda, of Canyon, and Andy Sherrod, of Los Angeles, CA; two brothers, Ky ‘Kebo’ Sherrod, of Amarillo and Truman ‘Wham’ Sherrod and wife, Barbara, of Abilene; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to Dreamland Cemetery, PO Box 38, Canyon, Texas 79015, the American Heart Association, PO Box 841125, Dallas, TX 75284-1125, or a favorite charity.
