Obituary for LUTHER TALMAGE McKILLIP Jr.

Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the University Church of Christ in Canyon, with Glen Walton, minister of Bell Ave. Church of Christ and Roger Gist officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, May 28, 2012 at Brooks Chapel. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Luther Talmage "L.T." McKillip, Jr. was born on July 2, 1929 in rural Parmer County, TX to Rosie and Luther Talmage McKillip, Sr. He moved to Canyon after residing in Amarillo for 62 years. L.T. McKillip was a Fraternal member for greater than 50 years as he dedicated his life to the Order of the United Commercial Travelers of America (UCT). Through UCT, he helped raise thousands of dollars that touched the lives of many physically and mentally challenged children across the state of Texas. L.T. held the highest honors in the Texas Tejas Guild, Texas Grand Counselors Association, the International Secretary"s Association, and many more. L.T. was a lifetime member of the Texas Parent Teachers Association and was a member of San Jacinto Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosie McKillip; father, Luther Talmage McKillip, Sr.; wife, Athealee McKillip; infant son, Rex; four brothers; and one sister. Survivors include daughter, Mickey Simmons and husband, Jon, of Canyon; sons, Carl Dennis "Uncle Buck" McKillip and wife, Lysa, and Danny McKillip and wife, Robin, both of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.
