Obituary for LUCILE ANNA SWANSON HEITZ

Services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, January 28 at the University Church of Christ in Canyon, Texas with David Lough, minister, and Bob Shepard, officiating. Interment will be at Dreamland Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 27 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel. Lucile Anna Swanson Heitz was born June 8, 1935, to Herman & Lucile Swanson at the homestead of her grandfather, Andrew J. Swanson near Rosevale, NE. She attended rural Garfield County schools through the 8th grade and graduated from Ord High School, Ord, NE, in 1953. Lucile and Roland (Rolly) Heitz were married in Burwell, NE, on July 12, 1953. Lucile taught school in rural Valley County for four years, two of which were in a two-room school with her husband, Rolly, as co-teacher. In addition to her years of teaching in Nebraska's rural schools, she worked at Oregon State University Registrar"s and Business Offices in Corvallis, Oregon. She retired from West Texas A&M University in Canyon, TX, in 1997 after many years of working in the Business and Personnel Offices. She was an active member of University Church of Christ in Canyon for nearly 30 years. She was devoted to her family and took special pride in her grandchildren. In August 2008, she moved to Durant, OK, to be closer to her sons and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents and in 1990 by her husband of nearly 37 years. She is survived by two sons and their wives, Lance and Dinita Heitz of Tennessee Colony, TX, and Layne and April Heitz of Durant, OK; two grandsons, Joshua Heitz & wife Callie, of Canyon, TX, and Bregan Heitz of Durant, OK; two granddaughters, Sydney and Cheyenne Heitz, and great-granddaughter, Dakota, of Tennessee Colony, TX.; two sisters and their husbands, Vivian and Kirk Looper of Westerly, RI.; and Kathy and Gene Zulkoski of Burwell, NE; one brother and his wife, Allen and Carol Swanson, of Grand Island, NE; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
