Obituary for LORENE WHELCHEL FOSTER

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, April 21, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Happy with Rev. Tom Stribling officiating. Mrs. Foster will not be available for viewing. Private Interment. Lorene "Memaw" Foster was born on December 26, 1935 in Armstrong County to Paul and Alma Brown Whelchel. She was raised in Claude and Armstrong County and graduated from Claude High School in 1954. She was a starting member of the basketball state championship team at Claude her first three years of high school and her team lost in the state championship game by two points her senior year. Mrs. Foster farmed and ranched and worked for the Happy Hitching Post for many years. She was well known to everyone as "Memaw". She was preceded in death by two husbands, Daniel Ray Heckman and Dean Foster, her parents and three brothers. Survivors include two daughters, Pat Arnold and Sherri Shipman, both of Happy; one son, Randy Heckman, of Amarillo; a sister, Myrtle Lou Henicke, of New Iberia, LA; a brother, James Roy Whelchel , of Claude; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
