Obituary for Lisa Annette Dietz

Lisa Annette Dietz, of Canyon, Texas died on Friday, April 28, 2023, in Canyon, TX at the age of 64.

Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, May 1, 2023 at the First Methodist Church in Canyon, Texas with Murray Gossett, associate pastor of First Presbyterian of Amarillo officiating, followed by burial at Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon. The family will receive friends from 3:30-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at Brooks Chapel.

Lisa was born November 5, 1958, in Tulia, Texas, to Richmond and Martha Dufek Payne. She married Keith Dietz on August 24, 1979, in Happy, Texas.

Lisa grew up in Happy, Texas where she graduated from Happy High School in 1977, and from WTSU in 1981, with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. She worked as financial secretary and was a member at First United Methodist Church of Canyon for 20 years, and business administrator at First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo for 10 years, of which she was also a member, until her death. With her passion for music, she directed children’s and handbell choirs at the Methodist church for many years and was piano teacher to several students. Being a small-town Texas girl was something that never left her and played a huge part in being one of the toughest and strongest women many have ever known.

Lovingly known as “Nana”, one of Lisa’s greatest joys was showering her grandkids with gifts and attention. The same love that she poured into her children, Kedra and Chad, expanded to encompass her 6 grandchildren. She followed them from baseball field, to basketball court, to football stadium, to stage, to tumbling mat, and to whatever adventure was happening in the backyard. She also enjoyed family adventures to Red River, Colorado, Texarkana, Louisville, Fort Worth, and an Alaskan cruise for their 40th wedding anniversary.

Lisa was known for her love for her family, her immediately recognizable laugh, watching every football game that came on TV, an ever- present Route 44 Diet Coke from Sonic, card games, board games, puzzles, knitting, and her persistent search for a reason to party. Being an older sister was something she cherished. Andi states of her sister, “without waver, she was my hero.” Despite being ill most of her adult life, she was able to find joy in her family and her work.

She is survived by her husband, Keith Dietz of Canyon; her daughter, Kedra Giddens and husband, Tory of Fort Worth; her son, Chad Dietz and wife, Lacee of Amarillo; 6 beautiful grandchildren, Abigail, Nathan, Luke, Hannah, Amelie, and Koen; one younger sister, Andi Molloy and husband, Oren Don of Memphis, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and one uncle.

She is preceded in death by her parents, three nieces, Jaci Barrett, Lena Waldenmayer, and Julie Barrett Weise, a nephew, Donny Waldenmayer, and two cousins, Gary Barrett and Tommy Rainey.

The family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, PO box 81795, Austin, Texas 78708, or to your favorite charity.
