Obituary for Linda Maxine Crockett

Linda Maxine Crockett, 91, of Canyon, died on Friday, March 5, 2021. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Linda Maxine was born on June 15, 1929 in Dodson, Texas to Clyde and Elizabeth (Phifer) Scott. She married James L. Crockett, and he preceded her in death on May 9, 2010. She was talented with watercolors and was a member of Palo Duro Canyon Chapter of the Tri-State Artists Association. She was also a member of First Christian Church of Canyon where she was active for many years.

Fellow church member, James O’Gorman, expressed these sentiments about Maxine: “We who loved her have long missed Maxine’s smile, her humor, her talents, and the genuine joy she seemed to feel with every breath. I know that there were times she felt great loss, like when her husband passed, but she survived those losses with a spirit of thankfulness and determination to press on through. No one was going to be sad for long in her presence; her presence was one of joy and happiness. I can’t look at her watercolors we have in our home without feeling the joy and beauty that was in the mind of the one who created them.”

Linda Maxine was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Jacque Meisner, and a son-in-law, Dwight W. Huber. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Huber of Amarillo; her son, James R. Crockett and wife, Debbie of McKinney; four granddaughters, Lyn Manley and husband Todd, Sarah Schott-Kennedy and husband Tom, Janessa Corbitt-Kennedy and husband Trent, and Desiree Crockett; three great grandchildren, Morgan Hughes, Hannah and Jackson Manley; and two sisters, Sharon Johns and husband Bill, of Tipton, OK and Sandra Swanson of Columbus, Ohio.
