Obituary for Lewis Block

On Friday, November 13th, Lewis Block, loving husband and great father, peacefully passed away at the age of 79.

Lewis was born in Pampa, TX on July 2, 1941 to Ivan and Frances (Finch) Block. He received his Bachelors in Animal Husbandry from Oklahoma State University in 1963 and was a respected farmer and rancher in Hereford, TX until his retirement in 2015 upon which he moved to Amarillo.

Lewis loved to farm but not so much that he would not take off to have fun. He lived life to the fullest and full of adventure. Starting in college he got his pilot’s license and flew, then later years it was only his flight simulator, but he loved to fly. There was nothing he would not try. He loved snow skiing, water skiing, motorcycles and snowmobiles, sailing, tennis and golf.
He constantly explored new hobbies and loved learning new things. It was not uncommon for him to enroll in a college physics or astronomy course for fun or become a certified scuba diver and go diving in Honduras or take a fly-fishing trip to Canada. He also loved to travel and made several trips a tradition every year, like an annual trip to Cayman Islands to dive, fish or just relax, Indian Wells tennis tournament or even his road trips with his wife, Linda to look at bluebonnets or aspens in the fall.

If Lew was around, you were laughing, often laughing at himself, he did not mind being the brunt of the joke. He was a tender-hearted gentle man always so kind to others and loved by so many people. He went out of his way to do for others. If a fellow farmer could not farm his land, Lewis pitched in and helped. Even after retirement, he was helping others to harvest. He was a good friend. When you were around, he made you feel special and was always excited to see you.
Then his family. He was a devoted husband and Dad. Lewis loved his wife, Linda. They enjoyed a wonderful 44, almost 45 years of life together.
He also loved his girls and grandkids and made sure he provided a good foundation of love and introduced them to a life of fun and adventure from early on in their life.

Lewis was preceded in death by his father, Ivan, mother, Francis and granddaughter, Taylor Bohrer. He is survived by his wife, Linda; 5 daughters, Deborah & Cliff Myers of Arkansas, Carrie & Barry Wormell of Valley, WA, Traci & Doug Green of Colorado Springs, CO, Misty & Chad Kriegshauser of Amarillo, TX , and Britni Block of Angel Fire, NM. Additionally, his brother, David and Lynn Block of Jackson Hole, WY and sister, Rojean Block of Florissant, CO. Also, 5 grandchildren, Jeremy Block, Travis Green, Graci Green, Ethan Kriegshauser, Rylan Kriegshauser, and 2 great-grandchildren, Myca and Nico Block, along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.
