Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 24, 2004 at St. Mary"s Catholic Church in Umbarger, with Rev. Scott Raef and other priests of the Diocese officiating. Vigil/ Rosary will be at 7:30 PM on Friday, July 23, 2004 at Brooks Chapel. Burial will be in St. Mary"s Catholic Cemetery, Umbarger, TX. Mr. Raef was born on November 2, 1907 in Prescott, Kansas to Francis and Nellie Boyd Raef. They moved to Claude in 1910 and then to St. Francis in 1918. He attended St. Francis grade school and graduated from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago in 1928. He then moved back to Amarillo and worked as an electrician for general contractors. He married Reba Myers in Amarillo in 1933. They moved to Umbarger in 1946 where he owned and operated Umbarger Butane for thirty years, retiring in 1976. He also owned and operated the Umbarger grocery store. He was an active participant in the annual German Sausage Festival. He was a member of St. Mary"s Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th Degrees. He served on the School Board of Trustees and on the Water Board for Umbarger. He also served as an Election Judge for Randall County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Reba, in 2003, one son, Thomas D. Raef, in 2000, and a great granddaughter, Alyssia Earl, in 1979. Survivors include six daughters, Barbara Bernard Hartman, of Canyon, Helen Raef Lannier, of Fairview, TX, Sylvia Raef Artho, of Canyon, Suzy Hicks, and husband, Marion, of Umbarger, Margaret Riggs, of Amarillo, and Mary Lyne, and husband, John, of Corsicana, TX; five sons, Louis Raef, of Amarillo, Guy Raef, of Amarillo, Michael Raef, of Umbarger, Andy Raef, and wife, Edith, of Crestview, FL, and Dr. Kevin Raef, and wife, Kathy, of Canyon; sister, Florence Hatfield, of Amarillo; brother, George Raef, of Big Springs, TX; forty grandchildren, forty-two great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.
