Larry Thomas, 78, of Canyon, passed away on Monday, December 28, 2020. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 P.M. on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Brooks Chapel, followed by private family services.
Larry was born on January 28, 1942 in Marlow, Oklahoma to Coyt and Earline Bennight Thomas. He grew up in Marlow and graduated from Marlow High School. He married Gloria Underwood at the First Baptist Church in Marlow on September 1, 1961. They lived in Canyon from 1980 to 1987 and then moved back to Canyon in 2013.
Larry served for six years in the National Guard. He retired from Halliburton Services after 33 years. He was a member of Hope Road Baptist Church in Duncan, Oklahoma and First Baptist Church of Canyon. He was also a member of Elks Country Club in Duncan and RCA Rodeo and PRCA Rodeo.
Larry was a calf roper and loved the cowboy life. He also later enjoyed golfing and loved to read and research, always wanting to learn more. His greatest love was spending time with his family, telling them stories.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Jimmy Ray Whitt. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Gloria Thomas of the home; his daughter, Trina Biggs and husband, T.J. of Canyon; granddaughter, Lauren Biggs-Larue and husband, Ian of Lubbock; grandson, Tate Biggs of Canyon; sister, Patsy Quire; and several nieces and nephews.
