Obituary for Kevin Devon Atchley

Kevin Devon Atchley, 63, of Amarillo, Texas was born May 12, 1956 in Altus, OK to Jane Ann Baker and Kenneth Devon Atchley.  Kevin went to be with his heavenly father on September 7, 2019. Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the Mescalero Baptist Church in Amarillo, Texas with Michael Matthews and Rev. Kevin Oakley officiating. In this world we typically say there are people who are leaders and those who lead.  Kevin didn’t fit either category.  He beat to his own drum!  He loved fiercely and debated fiercely.  If he believed in something then he believed it with his entire heart, mind, and soul.  His contagious smile spread through the people he loved.  He loved painting, sculpting, music, fishing, camping, and spending time at the lake.  Most importantly, he loved our Lord and Savior. Kevin graduated from Canyon High School in 1974.  He was a lifetime learner and continued his education at Amarillo College and Greenville Community College where he embraced the Arts.   He was an amazingly talented artist.  His pottery and drawings are strung throughout the homes of his family and friends. Kevin was a home painter and builder; he worked most of his life in the construction and remodeling industry.  Many people commissioned him to do special projects that required detailed work and a steady hand.  He showed pride in his work by his attention to detail and perfection. Kevin made his home in the Dallas and Amarillo area throughout his life, but ultimately ended up where he could be close to his family in Amarillo.  He never had his own children but accepted and treated all children as his own.  He was blessed with many nieces and nephews. Cherishing his memory is one sister, Terri Falk and husband, Dennis of Amarillo; three half siblings, Stefanie Baker of Houston, Chris Baker and wife, Lori of Amarillo, and Barbara Thurston and husband, Buck of Eagle Nest, NM; and two cousins whom he loved like siblings, Larry Gallop and wife, Kim of Amarillo and Janice Dalman and husband, Mike of Amarillo. He was also blessed and loved by many other family members and friends that he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by one cousin, Rickey Don Gallop, his aunt and uncle, A.N. and Glenda Gallop, grandparents, Pete and Rasie Atchley of Gould, OK and Joe and Fern Allison of Gould, OK. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Youth Group, Mescalero Baptist Church, 13330 Mescalero Trail, Amarillo, TX 79118.
