Kerry Wayne Murphy died at the age of 91 on January 20, 2021, in Amarillo, Texas. He was born January 17, 1930, in Roaring Springs, Texas. He was born and raised during the depression in the Panhandle of Texas, molded by moving from leased farm to leased farm; the steady hum and hard work of the cotton gins and the respite of the honky tonks and dance halls. He left the Panhandle in order to get out from behind the plow and joined the Army. He served bravely and proudly in the Korean War. Kerry drove a truck for most of his working life driving for Steel Built, CR Davis, Santa Fe Transportation, and Yellow Freight. In retirement he enjoyed golf, cowboying, and tinkering in the garage.
He is preceded in death by parents Marvin and Jewel; twin brothers Keith and Kenneth: sister Kay (Truelock); wife of 59 years, Wanzella: survived by his children Michael and Lucy Murphy; Pat (Murphy) and Wayne Thomas, and David Murphy; survived by his grandchildren Mary Kate, Casey, Matthew, Jacob, Kallie, Kayla, Kassie, and Kaitlyn; survived by his great grandchildren Kara, Clover, and Carter.
