Obituary for Kenneth Dale Whitley

Kenneth Dale Whitley, 71, of Amarillo passed away on Friday, June 26, 2020. Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Generation Next Worship Center with Pastor Tommy Fulgham officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon.

Kenneth was born on July 12, 1948 in Amarillo to Reno and Dorothy Wright Whitley. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1968 to 1971 during the Vietnam War. He received several medals and awards, including a purple heart. He retired from Potter County Sheriff’s Office.

Kenneth loved motorcycles and trout fishing and camping in the mountains. He enjoyed westerns, especially if they included John Wayne, and was an avid a gun enthusiast.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Terry Glen Whitley, a son, Gaylon “Patrick” Moore, and a grandson, Jules Moore. Survivors include his wife, Ella Mae Whitley of Amarillo; five children, Crystal Evans and husband, David of Amarillo, Jeffrey Whitley of Colorado, J.J. Moore of Amarillo, Brandon Cain of Amarillo, and Keva Bell and husband, Sean of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; and one sister, Doris Williamson and husband, Rusty of Amarillo.

The family suggests memorials be to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, 34 Country Club Road, Angel Fire, NM 87710.
