Obituary for KATE DONNELL GAMBLE

Memorial services will be 4:00 PM Thursday, January 24, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Dr. Don McDonald, pastor, officiating. Kate was born on April 17, 1920 in Swisher County to Mr. and Mrs. L.A. Donnell. Kate started school in Canyon in 1926 and graduated from West Texas A&M in 1941 with a B.S. degree in Home Economics Education. She taught in the Dalhart and Canyon school systems. In 1943, she married Lt. Howard Carey Brewster. He was killed on D-Day in France. Their daughter, Karen Brewster, was born July 20, 1944. Kate worked for the Extension Service as County Extension Agent in Hutchison, Randall, and Hale Counties. She was president of the Agents" Association while in Hale County. She was always active in the First Presbyterian Church where she served as deacon and elder. She was the first president of the University Study Club and was later elected to be an honorary member. She also worked for the Department of Public Services as a Day Care Licensing Representative. Kate married D.C. Gamble October 4, 1947. They were married 45 years before his death in 1992. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Keith Bauer, two brothers, Alton and Overton Donnell, and her daughter, Karen Brewster Busby. Survivors include her grandson, Brent Warner and wife, Denise, of Lubbock; two great grandchildren, Amanda and Christopher Warner, of Amarillo; four nieces; and four nephews.
