Obituary for Karen Barnes

Karen Barnes, 78, of Canyon, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at the First Baptist Church of Canyon with Rev. Steve Olsen officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, August 8, 2022 at Brooks Chapel.

Karen was born on November 22, 1943 in Bremerton, WA to Hubert and Waldeen (Dodson) Bishop. She graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1961 and married Orin Barnes in Amarillo on July 22, 1961. Karen worked for 21 years as a legal secretary at Amarillo Land Title while also keeping books for their business, Orin Barnes Quarter Horses. She continued keeping books for the business until she and Orin retired.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canyon and was very active in the Soaring Spirits Sunday School Class. Family was the most important thing to Karen. She loved life, her family, and treasured having everyone together. She was meticulous at bookkeeping, organizing, and planning, and she enjoyed Wahoo, Solitaire, sewing, and especially loved dessert.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Orin Barnes of Canyon; three children, Gay Burk of Plano, Kam Barnes and wife, Holly of Austin, and Darin Barnes and wife, Brooke of Canyon; six grandchildren, Bradley Burk and wife, Michelle, Ryan Burk and wife, Kimberly, Logan Barnes, Ellie Lord and husband, Cameron, Lorin Barnes, and Rilee Barnes; five great-grandchildren, Kaylynn, Caleb, Calais, Kaiden, and Kason; her brother, Ricky Bishop and wife, Stephanie of Wichita, KS; and brother-in-law, Gordon Barnes and wife, Lynette of Amarillo.
