Obituary for JULIUS BURTON GODWIN

Private Interment. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Brooks Chapel. Julius Burton (J.B.) Godwin was born June 7, 1922 to Thomas Carl and Velma Edwards Godwin in Raleigh, North Carolina. As a young child he moved with his family to Vernon, Texas. He graduated from Vernon High School. He married Betty Joycelyn Sparks in 1943 at Portland, Oregon. He served in the 13th Air Force during WWII from 1939 to 1945 in the islands from Guadacanal to the Philippines. He was a radio control operator both airborne and on ground. He received 13 battle stars during his career. Following his discharged he moved to Lubbock, Texas and later Tulia where he owned Tulia Auto Parts. In 1970, he moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where he owned Peak Auto Supply. He moved to Clarendon, Texas upon retirement. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Arlen Godwin, and a grandson, Kenneth Edward Bryan. Survivors include his wife, Betty Godwin, of the home; brothers, Kenneth B. Godwin, of Amarillo, Truman D. Godwin, of Abernathy; sister, Doris Koshers, of East Meadow, New York; son, Carl L. Godwin, of Amarillo; daughter, Joycelyn Moore and husband, Larry, of Happy; grandsons, Todd Bryan and wife, Dawn, of Happy, Dennis L. Bryan and wife, Stephanie, of Happy; great grandchildren, Seth, Maci, Kole, Kenna, and Karson Bryan. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials are made to favorite charities or the CareNet Crisis Pregnancy Center of Canyon, 1001 23rd Street Canyon, Texas 79015.
