Obituary for John Michael 'Mike' Koehler

John Michael ‘Mike’ Koehler, 73, of Amarillo, passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2021. Services will at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, April 12, 2021 at the St. James Episcopal Church in Dalhart with Father Philip Ray officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Dalhart. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon.

Mike was born on June 10, 1947 in Dalhart to Raymond and Catherine Dilworth Koehler. He graduated from Dalhart High School in 1965 and received his Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Finance and a minor in Banking from Texas Tech University. He also graduated from the SMU School of Banking and the American Institute of Banking. In 1970, Mike started his banking career at American National Bank in the mailroom. He and his family moved to Dalhart in 1978 to become the Executive Vice-President of Citizens State Bank. He retired in 1996 as Chairman and CEO of the bank.

Mike served as a director for the Amarillo Club, chairman of Dallam/Hartley County Hospital District, director of Downtown Women’s Center, and was a trustee of Northwest Texas Episcopal Diocese. He always said his calling in life was to help people. He was a very philanthropic man and donated to many charities as well as helped any friend or stranger he saw that had a need.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jeremy Kortney ‘Kort’ Koehler and two brothers, Bill Koehler and Jim Koehler. Survivors include two sons, Joshua Kelcey Koehler and Justin Michael Koehler; three grandchildren, Chisum Koehler, Cross Koehler, and Kortney Koehler; three sisters, Mary Schooler, Louise Conley, and Joan Graham; special friend, Robin Harden; and his beloved dog, Sammy.
