Obituary for JOHN ALLEN HOOVER

Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Monday, February 25, 2008 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon with Dr. David Lowrie, minister of First Baptist Church of Canyon, officiating. Cremation arrangements by Brooks Funeral Directors. John Allen Hoover was born on January 29, 1919 in Globe, Arizona to Charley and Ruby Thompson Hoover. He was raised in Deaf Smith County, and attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales and Colorado A&M University in Fort Collins. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during WWII, in New Guinea and the Phillippines. He was awarded the Bronze Star in 1945. He married Mary Hoyt on December 18, 1945 in Denver, CO. They were married 62 years. They lived in Pampa, Amarillo, and have resided in Canyon since 1964. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Hoover, a sister, Pearl Hoover Robbs, and a great granddaughter, Eliza Bradicich. Please sign our online registry at www.brooksfuneral.com. Survivors include his wife, Mary Hoover, of the home; three daughters, Kathy Whitehead and husband, Bruce, of Cleveland, OH, Joyce McBroom and husband, Mike, of Canyon, Robin Garcia, of Albuquerque, NM; son, John Hoover and wife, Cindy, of Boys Ranch; brother, Charles Hoover and wife, Wanda, of Hereford; two sisters, Vera Caso, of Miller Place, NY, Sande Jorgensen, of Burbank, CA; seven grandchildren, Michael McBroom and wife, Jackie, of Canyon, Caley Bradicich and husband, John, of Greenville, TX, Sgt. Ethan McBroom, of Iraq and Canyon, Hannah Whitehead, of Cleveland, OH, Amos and Ruby Watkins, of Albuquerque, NM, Gaucin Garcia, of Albuquerque, NM; thirteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
