Obituary for JOHN HENRY DIETZ

Memorial Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 5, 2012 at St. Ann"s Catholic Church with Rev. Phu Phan and Rev. Daniel Dreher officiating. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. Sunday, March 4, 2012 at Brooks Chapel. Private burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. John Henry Dietz was born on March 14, 1918 in Trinidad, Colorado to Gustav and Helena Dietz. He graduated from Happy High School and attended West Texas State University. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII, retiring in 1946. He served and retired from Air Force Active Reserve in 1978. He married Betty Ann Simon on August 8, 1944 in Umbarger, Texas. He was also an insurance broker and retired in 1997. John was a parishioner at St. Ann"s Catholic Church where he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He served in many ministries at St. Ann"s including ministry to the homebound for at least 25 years. He and Betty were chosen Texan Legend by Texas Parks and Recreation Dept. for volunteer work in Palo Duro Canyon State Park. He served as a member of the Palo Duro Kiwanas Club for a number of years during which time he served as Chairman. John was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings, and two daughters, Charlotte Knight and Janet Dietz. Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Canyon; son, John and wife, Anne, of Portland, TX; sister, Sister Rachel Dietz, OSB; two brothers, James Dietz, of Happy, and Richard Dietz, of Brownsville; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Memorials in lieu of flowers include St. Ann"s Catholic Church, PO Box 59, Canyon, TX 79015, and Partners in Palo Duro State Park, 11450 Park Rd 5, Canyon, TX 79015.
