Obituary for John Cleavinger

John Cleavinger, 66, of Wildorado, passed away on September 16, 2021. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, September 20, 2021 at Palo Duro Baptist Church in Wildorado with Shannon Moreland officiating. Burial will be in Palo Duro Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon.

John was born on November 6, 1954 in Canyon to Bill and June (Jennings) Cleavinger. He graduated from Vega High School in 1973, where he was active in FFA and played football. At age 6, John’s grandad, John Jennings, bought him a horse which began his lifelong love of horses. His passion led him to be an avid roper, horse trainer and rancher. He always enjoyed taking his boys to the rodeo. John also owned Rafter C Trailers and West Texas Trailers. He loved people, was always ready to help someone in need, and was a mentor to many young cattlemen. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Canyon.

John was preceded in death by his father, Bill Cleavinger, grandparents, Dutch and Hazel Cleavinger, and John and Eron Jennings of Canyon. Survivors include his sons, Codi Cleavinger and wife, Cassie of Nazareth, Ty Cleavinger and wife, Annie of Wildorado, Colt Cleavinger and Jake Cleavinger and mother to Colt and Jake, Keri Beth Cleavinger of Canyon; his mother, June Cleavinger of Wildorado; grandchildren, Kinzi, Kaden, and Kambri Cleavinger, Skylar and Swayde Cleavinger and Sealie Robertson; and many extended family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to the Wildorado Cattle Company Scholarship Fund, PO Box 120, Wildorado, TX 79098.
