Obituary for JOE W. GILL

Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 15 at the First Baptist Church of Canyon with Dr. David L. Lowrie, Jr.,pastor, officiating. Private Interment. Joe W. Gill was born January 6, 1921 to Robert and Loyce Buzan Gill in Groom, Texas. In the fall of 1927, Joe moved with his family to Canyon. He graduated from Canyon High School in 1939. On December 22, 1941 Joe married Dorothy Jones. Joe was a World War II veteran, serving in Canyon"s Company F, Texas" 36th Division. During the war he served in the European Theater from the time the war began in September of 1941 until the war ended in 1945. He received a battlefield promotion to Captain, a distinguished service cross, a silver star with two oak leaf clusters, a bronze star, and numerous other honors. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Joe was an avid sportsman. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marita Jo Prichard, and four sisters, Helen Dilg, Freda Grissom, Francis Fain, and Ruth Sanders. Survivors inchlude his wife, Dorothy Gill, of the home; two daughters, Lynn Gill, of Canyon, Leta Meadows and husband, Eddie, of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Greg Prichard and wife, Cristie, of Grapevine, Matt Prichard and wife, Lenora, of North Richland Hills, Mark Prichard and wife, Rachelle, of North Richland Hills, Amy Hardisty and husband, Dustin, of Amarillo, Laura Hughs and husband, Brian, of Canadian; ten great grandchildren, 6 Boys and 4 Girls; two brothers, John Gill, of Silverton, Harold Gill -of Lake Wales, Florida; and two sisters, Mildred DuRapau, of Austin, Billye Russell and husband, Dale, of Plainview. The family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, 1717 4th Avenue, Canyon, TX 79015.
