Obituary for Joe Devon "Jody" McBrayer

Joe Devon “Jody” McBrayer, 91, of Amarillo passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2021.

Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Dr. Roger Hubbard, officiating.

Mr. McBrayer was born January 31, 1930 in Hooker, OK to Joe E. McBrayer and Ruby Carter McBrayer. He graduated from Sam Norwood High School in 1948. While in high school he met Ravena Cunningham. They were high school sweethearts and dated three years before getting married on July 31, 1948. While in school Jody and Ravena both enjoyed playing basketball and they both wore the number 00 on their jersey.

In 1950 Jody joined his father’s family business in Childress, Texas. Later he owned and operated piano stores with his father and brothers in Ft Worth, Lubbock and finally moved to Amarillo and opened McBrayer Day Pianos in 1968.

Jody was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Jody and Ravena traveled extensively in their motorhome pulling their boat. They enjoyed many adventures with numerous great lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, two brothers, Donald Ray McBrayer and Darrell D. McBrayer and his grandson, A.J. Moore.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Ravena McBrayer; four children, Denise Wright of Lubbock, Diane Moore and husband Lonnie, Ernie McBrayer and wife Lori, and Eddy McBrayer; seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; his sister, Iris McBrayer; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Lake Tanglewood Community Church, 106 Lake Tanglewood Dr., Amarillo, TX 79118 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 5410 Bell St. #411, Amarillo, TX 79109.
