Obituary for Jesse Monroe Jones
Jesse Monroe Jones, 94, of Canyon, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.
Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Rev. Scott Raef as Celebrant. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Umbarger. Rosary will be at 6:00 P.M. on Friday, May 19 at Brooks Chapel. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors.
Jesse was born April 30, 1929 to Jesse and Ellen (Francis) Jones. He was a West Texas Alumni and proudly served in the Naval Air Force from 1948 to 1952.
On July 2, 1952, he married Therese Beckman at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Umbarger.
Jesse owned and operated Canyon Plastics for many years. He designed and manufactured the original Water Wagon. He partnered in the making of the WT white buffalo and the Canyon High eagle. He was very artistic and could do just about anything he put his mind to. He was proficient in music, painting, sculpting, and carving.
He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
Jesse was a proud Father, Granddad, and Great Granddad.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Norman Jones, Gary Jones, and Danny Jones and a daughter-in-law, Elaine Jones.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Therese Jones of Canyon; his children, Ellen Jones and husband, Tom of Golden, Colorado, Richard Jones of Colleyville, Lawrence “Chris” Jones and wife, Cheryl of Colleyville, Phillip Jones of Amarillo, Paul Jones and wife, Marie of Colleyville, Gretchen Mercer and husband, James of Canyon, and Kaci Henson and husband, Darrell of Canyon; fifteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and his brother, Ross Jones.
The family suggests memorials be made to St. Ann’s Catholic Church, PO Box 59, Canyon, TX 79015 or to St. Therese Little Flower.
