She graduated from Raymore, Missouri High School and following a short stay in college joined the World War II effort and worked in an Ordnance plant testing nitroglycerine and gunpowder. After the war she returned to Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri to continue her studies. While there she met her future husband Dr. Kenneth Waugh who had returned to college after spending four years in the military service during WWII with three of those years spent in the European Theatre of Operations. They were married December 19, 1948 in Kansas City, Kansas. They were a devoted couple who would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on December 19. Following WWII Jean served the education profession as an elementary teacher, counselor, and educational diagnostician. She received her Bachelor"s degree in Education from Central Missouri State University, her Master"s degree in Library Science from Indiana University, and her certificates in School Counseling and Educational Diagnostician from West Texas State University, now West Texas A&M University. She was a life member of The National Educational Association, Texas State Teachers Association, a member of The Texas Counseling Association and was granted Emeritus membership in the High Plains Counseling Association. She was also a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. After retirement Jean continued her service to the community by testing and helping children with learning problems, delivering Meals On Wheels, doing volunteer work in the church office, serving as a volunteer at BSA Hospice, and making herself available to any and all who could use her service. Jean liked to travel with her husband and children. Her travels took her to 5 continents. Whether travel called for housing in a tent or a 5 star resort, she was happy. Jean had a special love of and fascination with beautiful yellow roses. Her infectious smile was a joy to see, and all who knew her loved her. She will be missed by her family, friends, church, professional colleagues, and all who came in contact with this beautiful lady. She was preceded in death by her parents.
