Obituary for Jean Roberts
Jean Roberts, 95, of Friona, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2022.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Friona Cemetery. Viewing will be prior to the service from 12:30 to 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Friona. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon.
Jean was born August 23, 1926 in Levelland, Texas to Claud and Nancy Lucinda Ham Tugwell. She was a graduate of Levelland High School. She married Porter Roberts on June 16, 1950. He preceded her in death on April 12, 1999.
Jean moved to Friona in March of 1960. She worked as a secretary for Energas and Pioneer Natural Gas and was also a great homemaker. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the First Baptist Church.
She was talented in handiwork including quilting, knitting, and crocheting. She was also a great cook.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, James, Noel, and Harold Tugwell, and a sister, Patsy Tugwell.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Lynn Shirley and husband Richard of Katy; son, Charles Michael Roberts of Hereford; two grandsons, James Shirley and wife Micah and Matthew Shirley; sister, Eva Jackson; two brothers, Claud Tugwell and Don Tugwell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Friends of the Friona Public Library, 109 W. 7th St., Friona, TX 79035.
