The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 9, 2020 from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel.
Born in Ada Oklahoma, the second child to Arnold and Beatrice Orr Mahoney, sister to Edwin "Skeeter.” She briefly went to college in Ada. While on a date to a rodeo she met her future husband, a clown, a rodeo clown that is, when as a stunt he climbed into the stands to kiss the prettiest girl. A justice of the peace elopement and whirlwind adventure soon followed as she followed her cowboy clown around the world, temporarily ending up in Nebraska where her daughter Mary Beth was born. Two sons, Jimmy and Gary, born in Texas quickly followed. After a bit of chasing the dream they finally settled down in Canyon, Texas in 1965, where she got her teaching degree from West Texas Teachers College, now West Texas A&M University. She spent most of her 30-year career as an elementary teacher at Paramount Terrace in Amarillo, teaching hundreds of third graders. She was also teacher and grandma to 7 grandchildren: Ben and Clay Henry, Becca Walker, Derek, Matt, Ellie and Seth Ward.
She was a long-time member and Sunday and Vacation Bible School teacher at First Baptist Church in Canyon, TX. She traveled with her husband and volunteered extensively after retirement, most notably at the Quilting Room of First Baptist, making quilts for children.
She will be met at the Pearly Gates by her Husband Jim of 58 years and grandson Ben Henry.
She is remembered by her children and grandchildren, many of them following in her footsteps as teachers: Mary Beth and Donald Walker, Jim and Beth Ward, Gary and Lisa Ward. Her Grandchildren Clay Henry, Becca Walker, Derek and Ashika Ward, Matthew and Elizabeth Ward, Ellie Ward, Seth and Lauren Ward. Great grandsons, Jaxson, Jacob, Adrian and Austin Ward.
