Obituary for IVA ELLEN WALLEN PRIDDY

Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 23, 2005 at Dreamland Cemetery with Dr. Gerry Lewis and Chuck Yates officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 22 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home in Canyon. Mrs. Priddy was born January 12, 1909 on the King Ranch near Itan, Texas to Robert and Ada Wallen. Being the daughter of an early ranch veterinarian, she along with her 4 younger siblings crossed the Texas panhandle four times in a covered wagon and grew up on ranches in Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. She met Benjamin Franklin Priddy, her husband of 60 years, in Headrick, Oklahoma and they married on August 19, 1926. They raised their family in that rural community where she frequently used her God given talents to serve as the local midwife, nurse, and barber. They moved to Canyon in 1948 and were engaged in dairy farming and ranching. He preceded her in death in 1986. She accepted the Lord at an early age and was a wonderful Christian role model for family and friends. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Canyon. She was devoted to her faimly and was deeply loved by them. She had been living with her daughter in Prattville, Alabama for several years. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, J. C., Ted, and Claude Wallen, a sister, Odessa Kline, and one grandson, Robin Priddy. Survivors include two sons, Jack Priddy, and Bob Priddy, and wife, Geneva, all of Valley de Oro; two daughters, Shirley Johnson, and husband, George, of Amarillo, and Patsy Yates, and husband, Chuck, of Prattville, Alabama; sixteen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren, and six great, great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be to The Cohen Ezelle Missionary Expense fund, % Crestway Baptist Church, 6400 Crestway Blvd., Birmingham, AL 35312, or a favorite charity.
