Obituary for IRIS UNSELL DARAY

Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo with Rev. Robert Field officiating. Iris Lillian Unsell was born on November 2, 1916 in Groom to Ira and Gorda Collier Unsell. She moved from Groom to Canyon to obtain a teaching certificate from West Texas State College. After graduation in 1938, she began her teaching career in Hobbs, NM, where she met her husband Frank Daray. They married on November 2, 1941 in Hobbs. He preceded her in death in 1998, four days after their 57th wedding anniversary. From Hobbs she moved to Amarillo, where she retired from teaching second grade at Pleasant Valley and Belmar Elementary. From Amarillo, she moved to Rantoul, IL and then to El Paso, TX ,where she made her home for 37 years. She loved ballroom dancing, bowling, felt crafts, and her many cats. She remained a member of the Baptist Church throughout her life. She was also preceded in death by hertwo sisters, Mary Downing and Betty Rockwell, both of Canyon. The family sends sincere thanks to her many care givers, especially Irma Hinton of El Paso and Craig Methodist Windflower Alzheimer"s Care of Amarillo. Survivors include her two nieces, Gail Field and husband, Rusty, of Amarillo, Marsha Rockwell, of Omaha, NE; nephew, Scott Downing and wife, Diane, of Commerce, TX; four great nieces, Allison Ricketts and husband, Zane, of Canyon, Renee Ferrell and husband, Shane, of Amarillo, Paige Bussell and husand, Mark, of Commerce, Laine Leigh Downing, of Austin; and a great-great niece, Tanya Bussell, of Commerce. The family suggests memorials be to the Amarillo SPCA, PO Box 1014, Amarillo, Texas 79105.
