Obituary for Irene Deloris Greenfield James
Irene Deloris Greenfield James, 88, of Canyon, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023. There will be no public services.
Even at 88 and battling leukemia, Irene was still spry and wiry. On the date that Irene died, family member Charlene was with her. Years earlier on the same date, Irene sat with Charlene as her husband was dying.
Irene was born on July 5, 1935 in Amarillo to Cecil and Henrietta (Barett) Greenfield. She was raised in Happy and graduated from Happy High School in 1953. She married Wiley James on June 5, 1953 and they moved to the Wayside area until 1956 when they moved to Canyon.
One of Irene’s favorite things to do was to watch the Lady Eagles play basketball with her close friends, Tim, Eldrena and Veva. The three ladies considered themselves the Three Eagles, but Tim said it was more like three crows.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wiley, her great grandson, Eli, and a brother, H.J.
Survivors include two sons, Neil (Susan) and Del Ray (Cena); grandsons, Wes (Shoko), Will, David (Jasmina), and granddaughter, Sarah; great grandsons, Julian and Jaylen; and numerous nieces, a nephew, and several cousins.
Ecclesiastes 3:4 (ESV): a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity.
