Howard C. Wilkerson was born on June 27, 1937 in Lubbock to John and Cleo Hankins Wilkerson. He served in the Army Reserves. He married Glenda Norwood in Lubbock on January 7, 1966, and they moved to Canyon in 1970, where they owned and operated the Village Shoppe from 1975 to 1989. He served on the board of directors for the Greater Southwest Music Festival and the Texas Plains Girl Scout Council. He was a member of the Golden Spread Chorus of the SPEBSQSA. With the Canyon Rotary Club, Howard served as president, RYLA Chairman, and RYLA registrar for District 5730. He was a Paul Harris Fellow. He attended First Baptist Church where he was a faithful member of the Sanctuary Choir and Victory Voices Senior Adult Choir. Throughout his years in Canyon, Howard was active in many civic projects. Even in these past years of declining health, he continued his service to others, which gave him great joy. Survivors include his wife, Glenda, of the home; one daughter, Lora Welty, and husband, Labry, of Dallas; one son, Bryce Wilkerson, and wife, Jennifer, of Canyon; his brother, John G. Wilkerson, Jr., and wife, Ruth, of Lubbock; his sister, Mary Grady, and husband, Bill, of Hot Springs Village, AR; and seven grandchildren.
