Helen Louise Ham, 97, of Amarillo, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2021. Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon with Jim Shelburne, pastor of Washington Avenue Christian Church, officiating.
Helen was born on July 31, 1923 in Tulia, Texas to James and Mary McCoy Hutchison. She graduated from Canyon High School and married Frank Ham on December 19, 1941. He preceded her in death on July 26, 2007.
Helen and Frank were instrumental in starting the Washington Avenue Christian Church in Amarillo, where they were active members for many years. She enjoyed volunteering as a Pink Lady at Neblett Hospital in Canyon, and she was a member of the XYL&M Square Dance Club. She and Frank were very competitive and loved going to Las Vegas and playing each other in dominos regularly. Helen was very generous and so gracious with her hospitality. She always opened her home, especially at Christmas, to servicemen at the airbase and WT students that may not have a place to celebrate the holidays. She was an expert quilter and an excellent cook and will be remembered by her family for her wonderfully delicious fried chicken.
Helen is also preceded in death by two sons, Bill and Jerry Ham, and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include two sons, Robert Ham and wife, Lana and Charles Ham and wife, Rosanne, all of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Jim Bob, Michael, Frank, Holly, and Adrienne; and several great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity.
