Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 23 at Polk Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Enns, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Canyon, officiating. Gretchen was born in Amarillo on July 22, 1962 to Don and Betty Deckard. She married the love of her life, Tony Schartz, and from that day on they were inseparable. For most of their marriage they shared a love for creating beautiful clay artwork. They traveled the U.S. together displaying their work at art shows. Gretchen enjoyed life and helping others, especially those who were friends of Bill W. She also enjoyed kayaking, swimming, river rafting, knitting, and traveling. She was preceded in death by her father, Don Deckard. She is survived by her husband, Tony Schartz; mother, Betty Deckard; two brothers, Kevin Deckard and Tom Deckard; a sister, Georgeanna Deckard; two sons, Steven Lee and Jeff Schartz; two daughters, Mindy Lehman and Jenny Kriewald; nine grandchildren; and her niece, Samantha Sader.
