Obituary for GLENN O. OLSON

Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, May 13, 2005 at Texline United Methodist Church with Rev. Bailey Barkley, pastor, and Rev. Jeff Bayley, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Tahoka, officiating. Masonic Graveside services will be at 3:00 P.M. on Friday at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 12 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Texline United Methodist Church. Glenn O. Olson was born on January 28, 1921 in Randall County to Arthur and Esther Anderson Olson. He was a graduate of West Texas High School in Canyon and then graduated from Texas A & M University with a BS in Agricultural Engineering. He married Bettye Hales in Clovis on September 25, 1942. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving as a Lieutenant on the submarine U.S.S. Atule in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. After his discharge, he moved to Hereford and entered the farming business. He bought a farm in Texline in 1952 and moved his family from Hereford to Texline. He farmed and ranched in Texline until his retirement in the late 1980"s. He was a founding member of the Texline State Bank and a board member for 19 years. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the XIT Telephone Company of Dalhart for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Texline School Board and served as Chairman of the Board for Texline United Methodist Church. He was a District Deputy of the Masonic Lodge and was a member of many community service organizations in Texline and the surrounding area. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Texline. He was preceded in death by one brother, Emil Olson, in 2003. Survivors include his wife, Bettye, of the home; two daughters, Anne Fields, and husband, Bruce, of Canyon, and Carol Farmer, and husband, David, of Atlanta, GA; and one brother, Donald M. Olson, of Canyon. The family suggests memorials be to the Texline United Methodist Church or a favorite charity.
